FIRST THINGS FIRST

START REFLECTING

Exactly what kind of images are you hoping to walk away from your session with? Do you find yourself drawn to anonymous images that show off the body? Portraits? Editorial style? Have absolutely no idea? It can be very difficult to articulate your own style, so I don’t ask you to.

Instead, the first thing I ask clients to do is to create a “secret” Pinterest board for their photo session. If you are not a Pinterest user, you can also just send me some photos, but I find that the secret board on Pinterest is the best way for you and I to get a good visual of the concept we’re going for.

Once that’s done, I want you to create a Pinterest board titled “ (YOUR NAME) in the RAW” (it’s very important that you name your board with your name because otherwise I’ll have a hundred “MY RAW SHOOT” boards and won’t know who is who) and, without thinking too much about it, I want you to PIN anything that speaks to you and your style. I have lots of boards on my page for you to reference, but you can also take it upon yourself to venture out into Pinterest or pin images directly from this page or the rest of my website!

Try to turn off your fear and over-thinking at this point. Don’t say things like “OHH that’s so beautiful, but I would NEVER be able to pull that off!” or “I WISH I could look like that!”. That’s not the point of this exercise. After pinning 25 or so images, I will very easily be able to get a visual of your style and the type of images you are interested in.

Do you like sweet, bright, and bubbly? Do you like dark, moody, and seductive? Do you like shots that capture the entire body? Do you like close-up teaser shots of body parts? Do you prefer more modest portraits? We’ll find out together!

The purpose of this is NOT to find photos to replicate! It is inspiration and now that we’ll both know the kind of images you really like, it will be easier to deliver a set of photos that are YOUR STYLE, as long as it syncs well with my artistic style.

TYPES OF IMAGES

While my standard style is “authentic cool girl”

You’ll get it when you see your first image.

You’ll look confident and cool. It’s my specialty.

There are a lot of different types

of image categories to work with.

What are your favourites?

DETAIL SHOTS

Showcasing the beautiful bits that grace the female form. Collarbones, shoulders, arms, spines…

these types of shots are perfect for a wall art display and to add visual balance to an album.

BEAUTY SHOTS

With or without clothes, these images include your face and a portion of your body.

I have black, charcoal, light grey, and white backdrop options for different aesthetics.

Natural Beauty Shots

Similar to standard beauty photos, except these particular shots encapsulate your utmost natural beauty- without makeup - or very little make-up - celebrating your authentic self.

This is a truly special experience as it allows you to see your raw self in an entirely new perspective. Yes, we can

still remove blemishes and do a very gentle retouch, or you can choose to go without any editing! The option is yours and I love photographing fresh-faced women!

If you will be opting for a makeup-free photo session, be sure to shoot me an e-mail at least a week prior to your shoot to let me know not to book our stylist for you!

CLASSIC BOUDOIR STYLE

BVE Studio boudoir style is elevated, effortless looking,

and a beautiful celebration of the female form. Most of these

style of images are shot nude (or implied nude), or while wearing sheets or some form of lounge wear.

SEMI-SILHOUETTES

These bold, high-contrast statement images will leave you breathless.

Mostly silhouetted, these types of shots look best in levels of undress...

very sheer top and slips leave just enough to the imagination.

FAQ

I'm not a model. . . so not sure if I can really do this?

Helping women look their best is something I have become very passionate about. I am very confident in my posing as I have invested a lot of time studying posing that helps women look amazing in photos. The women on my website are everyday women and I can absolutely assure you they felt the very same as you and were just as nervous about a shoot.

Can I bring my friends to the shoot?

As much fun as a girl's day out is - I have a policy of limiting it to only one friend at the session if you so choose. Your friend will be there for moral support and encouragement; make sure she knows it is all about you. If she wants to have the experience for herself, we can book her for her own special day. The focus will be completely on you for the day.

Do you do much editing?

Because cameras nowadays can pick up every little skin detail, blemish and pore, I do use editing to get skin looking its best. However, I am keeping "photoshop" use to a minimum. I rely on posing, angles and lighting to play down problem areas and give skin its best light. I do edit out blemishes, skin flaws and simple things like under-eye circles and shadows in wrinkles. I will remove scars if you request this. I shoot in a RAW camera format which requires me to process them . . . much like the old days when film had to be processed to be printed from a negative.

The images on your website are very tasteful and pretty, but what if I wanted to get a little more risqué?

My boudior is not typical . . . I would like to think I am redefining boudoir - or at least this is my version of it. I believe that your images are about you, for you - and not an object for someone else. These sessions are about beauty, the strength and the confidence of women and, therefore, my images will not have an overly sexualized look. I want my clients to have tasteful, beautiful and cool images of themselves. I will shoot an array of clothed, partially clothed and tastefully implied nude, but no pelvic area will be visible in any of my work and that is a firm policy.

Where will my session take place? You have a studio?

I have a beautiful studio space in Bow Island, about 35-40 minutes west of Medicine Hat on hwy 3. Once you get to my studio you will be greeted with some refreshments, pampered and treated like the awesome woman you are!

Do my images have to be shared on your social media and website?

No . . . this is completely up to you. As much as I love your images and would love to showcase them, I understand that some women want to keep these images private and just for themselves. I have clients that are pastor's wives or are part of a church congregation, teachers, work in the medical field or in another public job and it would certainly be in poor taste for these to be posted anywhere online. I am your photographer and your comfort and privacy is a priority that is extremely important to me and your wishes will be respected. It is entirely up to my client what level they want shown, from no images at all posted to maybe just a few with clothes.

the STUDIO

COMING IN FROM OUT OF TOWN?

Bow Island is a 35 minute jaunt from Medicine Hat, so you get a nice drive through the country before your session. :)

If you happen to arrive early or are famished after your session, there is a cute little bakery or other services in town you can check out. There is even a Tim Hortons. (a nice surprise one is in little old Bow Island!)

MY LOCATION

#8, 706 Centre St. Bow Island, AB

BVE Studio is very easy to get to. Basically you turn north at the only set of lights in town and I am in the brown brick building on the second floor.

My space is built for photos. Beautiful natural light, clean simple sets, even the most flattering paint colour for all skin tones (yes, I really thought of everything!).
